Hegseth talks as if he’s just campaigning against Biden-era “woke” military leaders. But he began hammering at the military chain of command when Trump was president. He crusaded on Fox News for Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, who has been convicted for improper behavior in Afghanistan, and helped persuade Trump to rescue Gallagher. It was a bad omen, driven by contempt for military leaders, not DEI issues.
